To complete the entire tutorial, you need a workstation computer (Linux, macOS, or Windows), a Linux microPlatform device, and a Zephyr microPlatform device.
The Linux and Zephyr microPlatforms are portable, and builds for several boards are available. To get started easily, we recommend:
Linux microPlatform:
nRF52840 Dongle - a low cost USB device to enable Raspberry Pi 3 or other gateway device to support 802.15.4 OpenThread
SD card compatible with Raspberry Pi 3 (see this Embedded Linux wiki guide for examples)
Ethernet cable (or you can use WiFi)
3.3 volt USB to TTL Serial Cable, such as this SparkFun FTDI Basic Breakout 3.3V (optional, only needed if connecting via WiFi)
Zephyr microPlatform:
nRF52840 DK - a low cost development board for the Nordic nRF52840 SoC with Bluetooth, Thread and Zigbee support
